The Myth Buster About Boudoir Photography

What Boudoir Photography is NOT about…

A few months ago I had an interesting conversation with a person who was very keen to tell me what they thought Boudoir Photography was all about.

Honestly, he had no idea, and seemed genuinely surprised when I told him what Boudoir Photography was NOT about , not only for myself but for my clients.

This is what I told him, understand this only refers to my style of Boudoir Photography and is how I interpret this genre.

For me, first and foremost – Boudoir Photography is NOT porn! That is something totally different.

Boudoir Photography is a creative art form where women get to feel good about themselves, get to feel feminine and sexy in a safe environment.

Boudoir is NOT about men… Yes, you may do your boudoir session to give your photos to your significant other as a gift, but ultimately it is about women stepping out of their comfort zone and doing something just for themselves. The photos are the bonus, the ‘icing on the cake’.

In fact I have had clients tell me this when their session was over. How confident and empowered they feel

Boudoir is not about being young, perky and wrinkle-free, neither is if for models only.

It is for every age group, and every body shape. It’s about feeling vibrant, feminine, girly and sexy.

Boudoir is for all women. For women to step out of their comfort zone and do something just for themselves. To experience a few hours of pampering with hair and make-up, where they can have some fun and leave their session feeling confident , gorgeous , flirty and feminine.

So what was his response once my little rant was over?

Well, he shuffled his feet, looked slightly embarrassed, because he obviously had a totally different idea from what I’d just told him and mumbled ‘thanks’.

He turned to his wife, she raised an eyebrow and said: “See, I told you it wasn’t porn”.

Now that you know the truth about boudoir photography, it's time to get started!
